During Asian American Heritage Month, the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) will be airing “Asian Americans,” a five-hour film series about Asian American history produced by Renee Tajima Peña (Who Killed Vincent Chin? and Calavera Road) starting on May 11. On that date, right after the screening of the first film, Breaking Ground/Question of Loyalty, our film Never Give Up! Minoru Yasui and the Fight for Justice will be aired, from 10pm-11pm on the main OPB channel.
It will be re-broadcast on Wednesday May 13 (3am-4am OPB TV), Friday May 15 (9-10pm OPB-Plus), Sunday, May 17 - 1:00pm - 2:00pm [OPB PLUS], and Monday, May 18 - 1:00am - 2:00am [OPB PLUS].
The story of Min Yasui, Oregon native son, fleshes out details of the Japanese American experience in the state – immigration, establishment of farms and businesses, Americanization and education, and the shattering wartime trauma of forced removal and incarceration. A family story as well as a personal and historical one, Never Give Up! provides a local context for the larger story of Asians in America.
