Minoru Yasui Day legislation
It looks like we have bipartisan support in the Oregon State Legislature for the creation of a permanent Minoru Yasui Day - March 28, the day that he walked the streets of Portland, Oregon in order to start his test case against discriminatory military orders that resulted in the incarceration of over 120,000 persons of Japanese ancestry during World War II.
The 2016 Oregon legislative session is a short one, starting Feb 1 and ending the first week of March so we're working fast to get this legislation passed for Min Yasui's centennial! His Presidentia Medal of Freedom will be displayed a the state capitol for the opening ceremonies, with several members of the Yasui family in attendence.
We'll keep you posted on the legislation here.
